Madore Breaks Her Promises By Raising Taxes

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

In 2006, Shelley Madore repeatedly promised that she wouldn’t raise taxes on anyone but the rich. Should we really be surprised that she broke her promise over and over again?

In this case, Shelley Madore opposed an amendment by Rep. Pat Garofalo (R-Farmington) which would have deleted the bill’s mandatory property tax increases. The bill (H.F. 6) would have raised property taxes on special levies by up to 10% for every pupil in regular school districts.

Shelley broke her promise to not raise taxes on working class families like yours. Rather than making the tough decisions and making sure education got a top priority, she instead chose to raise taxes.

Madore Would Rather Give More Tax Dollars To Felons Than Veterans

Friday, June 20th, 2008

On April 17th, 2007, Rep. Tom Emmer proposed an amendment to HF 829 that would have shifted funds which the DFL planned to use for ex-felons and used that money for educational benefits for returning military veterans instead. Madore voted against it!

Madore apparently feels that ex-felons, people that have broken our laws, are more worthy of your tax money than young men and women returning from military service. Madore should explain why criminals are more important that military vets to her.

Oh I’m sure she has a good reason, it should be interesting to hear her “rationale”.

Madore Votes To Allow Taxpayer Funded Sex-Selection Abortions

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

On April 3rd, 2008, while discussing HF 1812, Rep. Holberg offered an amendment which would have prevented taxpayer funds from being used to fund an abortion if that abortion was based solely upon the babies sex. Madore voted AGAINST it.

Many people, including some of Madore’s constituents, find abortion repulsive enough, without the fact that Madore apparently thinks it’s okay to abort a baby just because you wanted a boy rather than a girl (or vice-versa)….and she wants YOUR money to pay for it.

If Shelley believes this is something worth spending your money on, what is NOT worthy of your money?? While it is easy to disagree with Madore on many issues, allowing state funding for an abortion based only on the sex of the child is not only repulsive but downright wrong. The act itself is wrong, much less making the taxpayers foot the bill.

With Madore, The Joke Is On You!!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

And unfortunately Madore’s April Fools jokes hurt….right in your pocket book!

Yesterday, Dakota County gave it’s stamp of approval to another one of Shelley Madore’s new taxes on you.  During her last campaign, Madore promised not to raise taxes on the working middle class.  She has broken that promise.  Madore apparently has no problems passing whatever taxes the inner city liberals tell her to impose upon us.

This time the tax is additional sales tax, as well as an excise tax on vehicles.

What will it be next time?? Shelley Madore has already proven there is nothing you have, that she doesn’t want a piece of.  I’m sure Madore will have also sorts of warm fuzzy reasons for her new taxes, even if they happen to be lies.  And there is no promise that your newly taxed money is even going to be spent in this area.

It’s bad enough that in an environment of high gas prices, Madore felt the need to artificially raise the price even more by imposing more taxes on gasoline.  Now with a sluggish economy, it will cost most her residents more just to tread water as virtually anything they do will incur even more in taxes….all thanks to Shelley Madore.

This April Fool’s Day, Madore’s joke is clearly on the taxpayer, except her jokes hurt….right in the wallet.  It should be clear to all voters that come November, it’s time to vote this joker out.

Madore Loves Pork!

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Madore had no problem voting for one of the largest tax increases in state history. Other than making up lies to justify her vote, there was also the supposed reasoning that there just wasn’t any room in the budget to pay for transportation needs without raising taxes.

If the budget really is so crammed with critical priority spending that raised taxes were necessary, how did Madore find room to spend $35 million on trivial non-critical items??

This session Madore has proposed the following:

  • $10 Million for the Minnesota Zoological Garden
  • $5 Million for the Minnesota Zoological Garden to plan on implementing their “master plan”
  • $4 Million for a high-speed rail line between St. Paul and Chicago
  • $10 Million to the city of Burnsville to build a Burnsville Performing Arts Center
  • $6 Million to build a Met Council Transit Station

Now each of these projects may very well be worthwhile but in a year where we can’t even find money to pay for critical expenses such as transportation, is this the time to be paying for non-critical items?? Think about that next time you fill up on gas and pay those new taxes.

Defenders might point out that these items are being paid for via bonding. However, when the GOP offered to pay for roads with bonding, DFLers like Madore said it wasn’t fair to make our children pay for our spending. If our children shouldn’t help pay for long term critical infrastructure like roads, how is it that it is fair for them to pay for things like zoological gardens??

Rep. Madore Justifies Voting For Huge Tax Increase By Lying

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

On the MN House floor today, while discussing the massive tax grab, otherwise known as HF 2800, Rep. Shelley Madore (Apple Valley - D) gave a very impassioned speech on her reasons for voting to override the Governor’s veto of the bill. In order to justify her vote, she apparently felt the need to grab the moral highroad…through less than upstanding methods. She stated…

The bridge went down on August 1st and a gentleman from my district died. He left four children and I went to their funeral…I went to his funeral. And I stood there with his family and I looked them in the face. And what you’re asking me is if his life is worth a nickel a gallon? I’m telling you it is. Those four children will never have their father come home. He was trying to get home to his family to have dinner. That’s all he was trying to do on the bridge that day. And I will vote for that, as I have publicly stated for the last two election cycles, I will vote for this today. Thank you.

Shelley, why do you feel the need to use another man’s gravestone as a bully pulpit? Especially when it’s not true.

Here are the facts :

  1. NOBODY in Shelley Madore’s district (Apple Valley) lost their life to the 35W Bridge Collapse.
  2. All indications are that no amount of money would have saved the 35W Bridge, if in fact it fell due to a design flaw
  3. The 35W bridge was not being neglected due to lack of funds, as maintenance was being done on the bridge when it fell.

Facts #2 and #3 are just inconvenient for Shelley Madore, as they destroy one of the central DFL talking points about that disaster.

However, it’s particularly distasteful that Rep. Madore has to capitalize on the death of another person in order to justify her votes. Instead, she should just be honest with her citizens by admitting that she has never seen a tax she didn’t like.

Rep. Madore, it’s bad enough that you follow the lead of your inner-city liberal buddies and vote against the interests of your own district time and again. However, it’s just plain revolting and despicable that not only do you use a man’s grave as your soapbox, but then use his body to shield yourself from criticism.

Shelley Madore, You’re Letting Us Down….And Disrespecting The Dead.

Dear Shelley,

Monday, February 25th, 2008

You’re wrong…..again.

Might want to pay attention to a recent poll of Minnesotans, rather than just doing whatever your inner-city DFL buddies tell you to do.

Do you think the state gas tax should? Or should not? Be increased to pay for improving the condition of our roads and bridges?

36% Should
59% Should Not
5% Not Sure

Would you support or oppose increasing license registration fees, or license tabs, in order to pay for transportation funding?

33% Support
62% Oppose
5% Not Sure

Would you support or oppose increasing the metro area sales tax in order to pay for transportation funding?

37% Support
54% Oppose
9% Not Sure

If the state budget deficit increases, which of the following should be done to balance the budget? Increase the income tax? Increase other taxes and fees? Cut spending? Should all of those things be done? Or should none of these things be done?

7% Increase The Income Tax
11% Increase Other Taxes And Fees
58% Cut Spending
17% All Of These
5% None Of These
3% Not Sure

Do you approve or disapprove of the job being done by the Minnesota state legislature?

29% Approve
50% Disapprove
20% Not Sure

Shelley, the lesson you should take from all of this is that not only does Minnesota overwhelmingly disapprove of what you’re doing, they disapprove of the job the DFL legislature is doing in general.

Shelley Madore You’re Letting Us Down….As Usual.

Madore Raises Your Taxes By $6.6 Billion

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Madore had a heck of a day at the legislature. She fully participated in the DFL taxapalooza under the guise of “improving transportation”.

Rep. Berns offered an amendment to allow county voters to approve a tax increase in the general election. Madore voted against allowing the public to decide if more taxes were necessary.

Since the DFL was making the claims that tax increases would allow for tax relief to local communities. So Rep. Kohls offered an amendment to put that into the bill, guaranteeing that property taxes are reduced by whatever amount a county receives from this bill. Shelley Madore voted against lower property taxes for local residents.

And again when many Republicans offered an amendment tying the revenue raised from tax increases to funds previously raised by property taxes, Rep. Madore voted against it. Madore apparently wants us to pay high property taxes AND higher sales/gas taxes.

In order to avoid increasing the risk of a economic recession in Minnesota, several legislators proposed reducing income tax rates to offset the increase in other taxes for transportation use. Madore voted against decreasing the risk of an economic recession.

Rep. Seifert proposed an amendment to prevent illegal aliens from receiving a tax credit. Madore vote FOR tax credits for illegal aliens.

In the end, Madore voted for 6.6 BILLION dollars in additional taxes to pay for DFL pet projects like light rail. In the process, she refused to commit to reducing property taxes. Madore refused to allow you a vote in the matter. Madore preferred to risk a economic recession rather than give working families a tax break. According to Madore, even though you shouldn’t get tax breaks, illegal aliens should.

Madore may claim that she is voting to improve transportation, but there are ways of doing that without raising taxes.

Madore…You’re Letting Us Down By Raising Every Tax!!

Madore Is Up To No Good Again!

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Everyone hold onto your wallets! Madore and her tax-happy friends are at it again! The Minnesota Legislature is back in session and nobody is safe until they adjourn.

In fact, Madore couldn’t wait 24 hours before she was proposing yet more taxes on working middle class Minnesotans. Madore is one of several authors of HF 2800, which is a dream bill for the taxman.

While working Minnesotans are already dealing with high gas prices, Shelley Madore wants to increase the gas tax by 7 1/2 cents. She also wants to increase the sales tax in the metro area. Rep. Madore also wants you to pay higher license tab fees.

And what does all those new taxes go towards??? Roads? No, it goes towards more light rail! Yeah!

Rather than show some fiscal responsibility and prioritizing, Shelley Madore would rather you pay for her misguided pet projects.

Shelley Madore, you’re letting us down….and taxing us to death!

UPDATE : Shelley Madore had herself removed as an author of HF 2800 on Monday, February 18th, 2008.  While we applaud this move, even if it is political motivated, it remains to be seen is if Shelley Madore will vote for it.  She has definitely not spoken out against the bill either in public or in private.

Madore Scores A Zero

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

The MN Chamber of Commerce has released their 2007 scorecard.

Rep. Madore scored a big fat zero.

The Chamber of Commerce learned what Apple Valley citizens have known for months.

Madore scored a zero because she wants to raise taxes and kill jobs.

UPDATE : Correction, she got one….out of twelve. And the one she got “right” was the DREAM Act….basically she voted to give illegal immigrants in-state tuition (using your tax dollars), a benefit we don’t provide even to most other Americans.
