Rep. Madore Justifies Voting For Huge Tax Increase By Lying

On the MN House floor today, while discussing the massive tax grab, otherwise known as HF 2800, Rep. Shelley Madore (Apple Valley - D) gave a very impassioned speech on her reasons for voting to override the Governor’s veto of the bill. In order to justify her vote, she apparently felt the need to grab the moral highroad…through less than upstanding methods. She stated…

The bridge went down on August 1st and a gentleman from my district died. He left four children and I went to their funeral…I went to his funeral. And I stood there with his family and I looked them in the face. And what you’re asking me is if his life is worth a nickel a gallon? I’m telling you it is. Those four children will never have their father come home. He was trying to get home to his family to have dinner. That’s all he was trying to do on the bridge that day. And I will vote for that, as I have publicly stated for the last two election cycles, I will vote for this today. Thank you.

Shelley, why do you feel the need to use another man’s gravestone as a bully pulpit? Especially when it’s not true.

Here are the facts :

  1. NOBODY in Shelley Madore’s district (Apple Valley) lost their life to the 35W Bridge Collapse.
  2. All indications are that no amount of money would have saved the 35W Bridge, if in fact it fell due to a design flaw
  3. The 35W bridge was not being neglected due to lack of funds, as maintenance was being done on the bridge when it fell.

Facts #2 and #3 are just inconvenient for Shelley Madore, as they destroy one of the central DFL talking points about that disaster.

However, it’s particularly distasteful that Rep. Madore has to capitalize on the death of another person in order to justify her votes. Instead, she should just be honest with her citizens by admitting that she has never seen a tax she didn’t like.

Rep. Madore, it’s bad enough that you follow the lead of your inner-city liberal buddies and vote against the interests of your own district time and again. However, it’s just plain revolting and despicable that not only do you use a man’s grave as your soapbox, but then use his body to shield yourself from criticism.

Shelley Madore, You’re Letting Us Down….And Disrespecting The Dead.

Given that Rep. Madore has so much false empathy for a fake Apply Valley 35W bridge victim, I do wonder if she has the same empathy for the four children that were snuffed out by a criminal alien driving her van (without a drivers licenses) through a stop sign. Certainly logic would apply and one can reason that the loose “open-borders” sanctuary city advocates are directly responsible for these children’s deaths: they encourage the law-less criminal aliens to live among us collecting benefits from the state-taking our money we earned from our labor.

Shelley, where are your fat-tears for these children? In truth, she and her Democratic open-border cronies have blood on their hands. Something is “rotten in Demark”.

  3. Kevin Says:

Shelley has in the past shown her open-borders roots, most famously when she sought to grant illegal aliens instate tuition. A taxpayer-funded benefit we don’t even given American citizens from Iowa.

  4. looking for solutions Says:

Man, you guys are pathetic. Lying? She was obviously talking about the guy from Rosemount. He was in her Senate District, although not her House District. Gets pretty lame for you to turn that into a “lie”. And I suppose you really do believe that a bridge can stand for 30 years with a supposed design flaw and then suddenly just fall down without any other underlying cause?
And I am glad to see that the site hasn’t left out any opportunities for bigots to get involved as well.

  5. Kevin Says:

Yes lying, she intentionally made a statement that she had to know was NOT true….unless she was greatly elaborating the rest of her story. What do you call not telling the truth??

Peter Hausmann isn’t in her district. When you’re a legislator and you say he was in my district and then use the tragedy of his death as a shield, that is inappropriate. I’m sorry that you can’t see that.

Bigot?? Caring about enforcing our borders is bigoted? Pointing out that the failure to enforce our laws is costing lives is bigoted??

That’s an awfully perverse view of the world you have. It’s perfectly okay to use a person’s death for political purposes, but pointing out that not enforcing the law can cost lives is “bigoted”.

  6. looking for solutions Says:

I’m sure that in your “perverse view of the world” as opposed to mine, you would not see the irony of accusing Madore of using bridge exploitation while at the same time using a tragic bus accident for your own political purposes. I’m sure you have already rationalized that in your own myopic way.

  7. Kevin Says:

I’m not holding up the children as shields against criticism though. I’m not claiming them as my own children.

That bus accident was just one more in a long string of travesties due to the federal governments complete inability to do anything about immigration.

  8. Lloyd Gregory Says:

This is from an email I just sent to Tara Mack.

Just what are Shelley Madore’s priorities? What does she think the role of government is if something as critical as the state’s infrastructure is so secondary that there is no room for it in the states already massive budget? If transportation is so important to her, why has she not prioritized it over other things in the budget the way every day Minnesotans have to? If it’s a choice between lavish gifts or expensive vacations versus fixing a whole in my roof, I have to fix the whole in my roof. I don’t have the option to demand a raise to pay for my needs, nor do I deserve one if I’ve squandered my money on my wants. Why is it different in Shelley’s world?

  9. Lloyd Gregory Says:

As context for the above, I sent it to it to Tara as possible questions for Madore, not because I though she could speak for Madore in any way.

  10. Kevin Says:

I think we’re all trying to figure out Madore’s priorities. Clearly they are not her constituents.

  11. Michael Says:

Madore made it quite clear at the legislature that the man who died was in her SENATE DISTRICT, which he was. She said nothing about him being in Apple Valley. She absolutely did not lie. You are the one telling the lie here. How pathetic are you to try to turn her statement into a lie. You are so transparent. Just another Swiftboating technique by another corrupt Republican.

  12. Kevin Says:

Sorry Michael but it is you that is wrong. Her actual remarks are quoted above and you can verify that by watching the video. She made no mention of her Senate district. She says HER district, and since she is a House Representative from 37A, you can guess what that means.

And if you’re going to call me corrupt, you might want to back that up with evidence.

There is nothing wrong with pointing out the truth. If you have a problem with the truth, you might want to take that up with Madore.

  13. Michael Says:

What that short video did not show was her previous comments that mentioned that the person who died was in her senate district. Your corruption in self-evident in the way you used a brief video clip to twist things for your political purposes. How shameful, and how very Republican. The infamous Karl Rove would be proud.

  14. Kevin Says:

That video clip you refer to is the proceeding of the entire floor debate for the transportation bill. Once again the facts foul up your argument.

And your attempt at silencing me by tossing out wild unfounded accusations of corruption for your own political purposes are laughable. How shameful, and how very liberal.

  15. Sakaki Says:

    Hey Michael,

She should have SPECIFIED Senate district, if she was at all accurate. But she isn’t. She’s nothing more than a hack who deserves to be voted out of office.

  16. Art Vandalay Says:

Another example of Madore, and all the other liberals having to use emotion to make their case. Madore had never met Peter Hausmann before …I know this for a fact! And then she tried to use his death to pass this pathetic bill. No amount of money could have stopped this tragedy, the gusset plates were not thick enough! It was a design flaw, not a funding flaw!

  17. Art Vandalay Says:

Plus did you read the phony story about her so called health care problem that Nick Coleman wrote about? That story is so full of holes it is embarasing. To think anyone would spend $50,000 out of their pocket because there are no in-network providers…especially in the Twin Cities area?! Come on…totally made up story I wish someone would get the facts on this whopper!
